Custom handrails
Used across residential and commercial projects. The configuration depends on the structure, dimensions, material, mounting conditions, and desired appearance — from a straightforward rail to a design that coordinates with other metalwork on the property.
Stair railing systems
A stair railing is not simply a level railing placed at an angle. It follows the actual rise, run, landings, and surrounding structure, so its dimensions have to correspond with the staircase where it is installed. Fabrication may begin with plans or with measurements from existing construction.
Balcony railings
Often a highly visible architectural feature. The design may need to coordinate with existing architecture, other railings, ornamental fencing, gates, posts, and exterior metal details. We do not assume one profile or material suits every property.
Steel, aluminium and stainless are not interchangeable
The fabrication scope should identify which material is appropriate for the intended component — existing construction, design requirements, location, dimensions, and finish expectations all influence the decision.
Steel railings
Flexible for custom fabrication across a wide range of designs — straightforward railings, ornamental details, custom posts, coordinating gates or fencing, and project-specific architectural metalwork.
Aluminium railings
Appropriate for qualifying projects where its material characteristics suit the application. The choice between aluminium and other metals should be based on the project rather than appearance alone.
Stainless steel
A different appearance from painted or coated steel, selected for particular architectural applications where the metal is intended to remain exposed.

Related components should feel intentional, not assembled
A project may involve railings, custom posts, gates, ornamental details, and other architectural metal components. They do not have to be identical, but they often need to coordinate.
An ornamental railing near a custom gate may use related design elements so the property reads as one piece of work. Our ornamental capabilities include scrollwork, finials, and custom posts.
Not every railing needs ornamental treatment. Some projects call for simple lines and restrained fabrication — the design should fit the property rather than adding detail for its own sake.
Exterior stairs, balconies and elevated areas
The goal may be functional, architectural, or both. One homeowner arrives with a clear design in mind; another wants the railing to coordinate with a gate or existing ornamental metalwork.
In either case the project starts with the actual dimensions and the surrounding construction. Photographs help start the discussion, but final measurements may be necessary before fabrication.

Waiting for a dimension is not a delay
A railing may appear on plans before the surrounding concrete, stairs, or masonry is complete. Depending on the project, fabrication may need to wait until critical dimensions can be verified.
That is not unnecessary delay — it makes sure a custom component is being built for the space that actually exists. We coordinate the railing portion of qualifying construction projects with the appropriate project contacts.
Older structures set their own conditions
Stairs may not match standard dimensions. Masonry may already be in place. Adjacent metalwork may have a particular appearance. These conditions should be reviewed before fabrication begins.
For replacement work we review the current railing and the surrounding surface instead of assuming the new system should copy every existing detail — damage, movement, changed property use, or an earlier layout may affect the scope. We do not promise an exact visual match to older metalwork when material, finish, age, or original fabrication details differ.
Which measurements matter depends on the project
A handrail, balcony rail, or stair system must fit the structure where it will be installed. Useful measurements may include the stair rise and run, landing dimensions, balcony edge, post locations, wall conditions, and the way people approach or leave the area.
Existing concrete, masonry, wood framing, or steel also affect how the railing is supported. For construction projects, final measurements may need to wait until the supporting work reaches the correct stage.

Requirements vary substantially by project
Railing projects may be subject to requirements established by the building, municipality, project documents, architect, engineer, general contractor, or another authority associated with the work.
We fabricate and install qualifying work according to the confirmed scope, but property owners and project teams should identify the requirements that apply to the specific installation. We avoid blanket statements that one railing configuration suits every application.
Modern Fence does not provide structural engineering or stamped engineering documents unless those services are separately confirmed for a project.
