Modern Fence Company has been serving property owners across Western Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma since 1950. Based in Fort Smith, we have grown from a traditional fence company into a full-service operation.
That operation covers residential fencing, commercial and industrial fencing, custom gate fabrication, automatic gates, access control, repair and maintenance, and custom metal fabrication.
Modern Fence is local and family-owned, with the company's current management in place since 1999. Materials change. Gate technology changes. Access-control systems change. Communities grow. The fundamentals of good contracting do not change nearly as much.

More than a fence installation company
Modern Fence is structured to handle projects that may cross several different specialties. Our capabilities are organised around three primary areas.
Modern Fence Company
Residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural and ranch fencing, temporary fencing, repairs, maintenance and gates. Projects range from backyard privacy fences to larger commercial and industrial perimeters.
Modern Metal Fabrication
Custom gates, architectural steel, aluminium and stainless steel work, handrails, balcony rails, stair systems and specialty structures. Fabrication in-house means a project is not limited to an off-the-shelf component.
Modern Access Control
Automatic gate operators, keypads, card access, RFID, telephone entry and intercom systems, with repair and ongoing maintenance. An entrance is more than a fence opening — gate, operator and access method all have to work together.
The property determines the plan
We work on neighbourhood homes, larger residential properties, estates, farms and ranches throughout our service area. We do not assume every backyard needs the same solution.

An entrance is a system, not an opening
An automatic entrance involves several connected parts. The gate has to move properly. The operator has to suit the gate and its intended use. The property also needs an appropriate method for requesting entry.

Not every project begins with an empty property
Many begin with something already there. Replacement and repair need a different mindset from new construction: the existing property has to be evaluated as it is today.

How a Modern Fence project is run
Materials should fit the project
We focus on wood, chain link and ornamental iron, plus what our gate, access-control and fabrication work requires. Height, property use, gate size, terrain and maintenance expectations all influence what makes sense — and we discuss those before the work is finalised.
Planning before installation
Reviewing the property, discussing intended use, establishing layout, identifying gates, reviewing grade and drainage, working from plans, coordinating custom fabrication and confirming dimensions once surrounding construction is far enough along.
Communication through the project
A salesperson is normally the primary point of contact, with field leadership supporting the installation. If the scope changes, or site conditions turn out differently, it gets reviewed with you rather than simply changed.
Repair, service & maintenance
We take qualifying repair-only work and smaller service calls, and offer annual service agreements for qualifying systems — most relevant for automatic gates and access-control equipment, where moving and electronic parts need attention over time.

Our normal travel radius is approximately 75 miles, although larger qualifying projects may be considered farther away depending on the scope.
